“An outstanding debut album” Folk London Magazine
Clementine's music is rooted in both English and Irish folk, with songs and stories inspired by the places she grew up: the beautiful apple orchards of Herefordshire and the rugged coast of West Cork. Her debut album 'Westbound' is produced by Marion Fleetwood (Feast of Fiddles, Sandy Denny Project), and features musicians from the Clementine Lovell Trio - fiddle player Duncan Menzies (Copper Viper, Club Debris) and percussionist Carmen Ruiz Vicente (Savannah Gardner, Dom Glynn) - as well as a host of guest artists including James Keay (Sam Lee), Robbie K. Jones (Track Dogs), Tom Leary (Feast of Fiddles), and Ric Sanders (Fairport Convention).
This album is also available in digital format via Bandcamp.
“WESTBOUND is a stunning feast full of flavours and a treat for the senses...spectacular.” FATEA Magazine
“Evocative and with exceptional musicianship throughout, and Lovell’s wonderful voice, this is a debut to be proud of.” Americana UK
“a stunning debut that effortlessly earns its place among the year’s best ”
Bright Young Folk
“a very accomplished debut. Her compositions and arrangements are impressive, and her poetic lyrics have real emotional impact. And of course, there is her voice” Folking.com
“An exceptional debut album...her music really made me sit up and take notice, for she's blessed with one of those voices you just can't ignore, that draws you in and holds you captive, with its eerie tonal quality, shimmering vibrato, and great command of melisma and ornamentation. Ambitious arrangements... the intense and moving personal quest of Sparrow and the rollicking pub session vibe of John Barnett which is a tribute to a well loved local musician. Her entrancing debut is my top recommendation this month.” David Kidman, Roving Folk
“the album is beautiful and her singing ethereal...imaginative textures created and underpinned by accordion.” Ric Sanders, Fairport Convention
“..when I read promotional material for Clementine Lovell’s debut album, Westbound, comparing her voice to Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, and Sandy Denny, I didn’t take it too seriously. Then I listened to the album and from the opening track, I understood exactly why such comparisons would be made. With its impressive range, expressiveness and emotional intensity, Clementine has a voice that really does stand apart from the crowd.” Folking.com
“a clear distinct vocal that sometimes recalls Sandy Denny. A confident and assured debut ” Get Ready to Rock
“Clementine's voice is wide ranging and strong and reminds me, and I do not say this lightly, of such as Sandy Denny and Maddy Prior.. my album of the month” Bob Leslie, Transatlantic Conversation on Celtic Music Radio
“My one to watch this week is the breathtaking and jaunty sound of Clementine Lovell, I'm so taken with the whimsical beauty of this track and its typewriter beat.” Folk My Life
